Our group had been seeing DifferenceMaker advertisements around the UMass Lowell campus for months. When the first meeting rolled around in February, we decided to check it out for free pizza and the brainstorming session. When we arrived, we were surrounded by students with great ideas that could improve our school, community, and the world. We had many ideas to contribute to the pool as well.

During our time with the program, we received a lot of guidance from various professors throughout the university, especially from the business department. We developed a business plan, designed a rocket pitch (only three minutes!) and a poster, while continuously improving and our designs.

Three months later, the initial 40 teams were narrowed down to 10, who presented for a panel of alumni judges. These judges decided who received first and second prize for several categories and the who would be the Campus Wide DifferenceMakers.

We were honored when it was announced that the “Developing Nations Prosthetic” team (our original project title) earned the title of Campus Wide DiffernceMakers and a grand prize of $5,000 (donated from alumni) to help make our company a reality.
